Hit by a meme tomato

This post will be a lot less formal than most of them because, well, I got hit by a tomato. A meme tomato. Tagged by Sandie and Ellen, I am compelled by each to share eight random facts about myself with you.
But since I got hit by them both, I’ll do 16!
Eight 16 random facts about me
- If I won the lottery I would go back to college and study…everything. I love to learn!
- Born and raised in Colorado, where I lived until a few years ago, and I’ve never been skiing. When the Olympics come around I might think it looks like fun, but I get over it.
- What I really want to do is direct. I mentally re-edit most movies, TV shows, and commercials I see. Even started a blog about it, but it went nowhere fast.
- My first car was an AMC Pacer wagon. Oh, yeah, I was full of popular in high school.
- I played Kinickie in my high school’s production of Grease. For a while there, I was full of popular!
- I love frozen pizza. The worse, the better.
- I enjoy romantic comedies. Shut up.
- I love Indycar auto racing. I want to root for Danica Patrick, but I think the Andrettis are a bunch of whiny poor sports, so I’m torn.
- I know Battlestar Galactica is a great show, but I can barely watch it. One week after another of misery and hopelessness. It’s like ER in space.
- I don’t have cable or satellite TV. We used to, but it turned into too big a time sink. Especially with the DVR.
- I know how to weld.I’m not a master, by any means, but I can do the basics. I learned here. I highly recommend it! Tons of bright noisy filthy fun!
- My wife and I have only original art in our house. Don’t get too excited, potential art thieves. Most of it’s mine.
- My favorite artist used to be Edward Hopper.I love his style. But I must be getting to a better place because I don’t really relate to his primary themes of lonliness and isolation anymore. I don’t have a current favorite.
- My favorite portrait photographer is Arnold Newman. No one better at capturing an image that really tells the viewer about the subject.
- I love bad comics. Thanks to Josh at The Comics Curmudgeon, I can’t get enough of Mary Worth. Thanks for nothing, Josh.
- I’m going to teach myself Ruby and Ruby on Rails, or Python. I have a supercool idea for a website and want to make it happen.
Man, that was harder than I thought it would be.
How this meme works
Okay, now, having done that, here’s what I’m supposed to do.
First, I need to post the rules:
1. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
2. People who are tagged, write a blog post about their own 8 random things, and post these rules.
3. At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and include their names.
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’ve been tagged, and to read your blog.
Second, I need to tag 8 other folks. I’ve got to say, though, that this part is pretty hard because a lot of my favorites—at least those I feel engaged enough with to do this—have already been tagged. Even so:
Naomi
Tei
James
Harrison (Heh heh. See what I did there?)
Diane
Kelly
Bob
Laura
These are some great sites with lots of good stuff to say. Check them out when you get a chance.
Okay…gotta go post comments. Update: Done.
Alrighty, then
There you go. 16 random things about me.

Hey, thanks for playing Matt.
We have a lot in common. I would LOVE to direct a movie! Preferably one I have written. I’m VERY good at seeing the big picture and how all the parts fit into the whole.
Also love original art. I wish I could afford more but a little tight on funds. All good artists deserve good money, don’t ya think?
Frozen pizza is very good and shouldn’t get such a bad rap. You can even get it in bulk, on sale at Meijers.
My first car was a chevette, which I affectionally called a shoveit. It actually ran well most of the time.
I used to live in Cortez, CO, for a short period of time. I loved the mountains but missed the water here in MI.
I could never downhill ski, but I do know how to cross country ski. Unfortuately, we don’t get enough snow here in Southern lower MI to go. Oh well.
Matt,
I knew you were a cool dude. #1 is totally me, too—and #11 and #12. I learned to weld while getting my BFA (sculpture minor).
Small world. Of course it’s not your art in my house, hehe, it’s mine, and now my prolific little person’s, too.
Great list!
Regards,
Kelly
Thanks for the link, and the tag. Now to think of 8 things, and 8 other bloggers who won’t totally kill me for tagging them…
Ha, your brilliant plans were foiled!
Check out seven weird things about James and seven weird things about Harry in these posts.
Since we need eight, I’ll add one for each of us:
James: I can’t sit down when I talk on the telephone. I pace.
Harry: I walk my cats on a leash.
Cheers!
Ahhh…thank you Matt, I needed something to write about today. Not sure where I’m going to find 8 more people though.
Guess James took care of that. There ya go, Matt.
Matt,
Jan
Only original art …ahhhh…knew there was something about you…
I love Newman’s work and Hopper, but prefer Fairfield Porter and Cartier-Bresson ..but it would be so hard to pick…..good list.. or excuse me…Fabo list.
Thanks so much for tagging me. A while back I quit doing memes. For the most part, I’ve found that they dilute the blog’s focus.
However, I’m betting my regular readers know more than 8 things about me. Hopefully, you’ll keep reading and discover those things too.
@Kelly Thanks for recognizing that, yes, I am indeed a cool dude. BFA, huh? Cool! If I were just starting again, I’d probably study art. Or engineering.
@Men with Pens D’oh! How’d I miss that? I can sit while talking on the phone, but I sure miss the old spring cord that I could play with in the doing. And we tried our cat on a leash when I was a teenager. Pure comedy watching him try to get that off. Just tried it the once.
@Janice Cartier-Bresson was a master, of course. I also like Duane Michals stuff quite a bit, though some of it is cheesy and hasn’t aged very well.
@Laura S’alright. Part of why I established casual Friday on this blog is to keep that stuff contained. But I appreciate you stopping by. I subscribed to your feed and do intend to keep reading!
Thank you all for stopping by and commenting. I appreciate it!
Matt,
I coulda done 24, I guess, but I went with the rules (sort of) and did eight. You’ll be glad, because even with eight, I do manage to stretch things a bit. I hope you’ll come by and leave a comment!

(Hey, how often do I get to do blatant plugs for my article on three other people’s blogs? Cool!)
Until later,
Kelly
Oh, MATT!
I’m cringeing when I read you grew up in Colorado and never skied. OUCH!
(Well, to be fair, skiing is an expensive sport. We could only afford it because my Dad was a part-time ski instructor).
I grew up in Montreal/Ottawa and learned to ski on tiny icy dinky little hills in minus 30C weather. We didnt’ know any better at the time, it was all we had. But it was absolute crap.
I never saw the Rockies till I was 16. When I finally skied there…it just totally blew my mind.
My ultimate goal right now (which is why I’m trying to write and publish books) is to be able to take winters off and just ski. That’s my lifelong dream.
And still, I feel a completely unearned sense of smugness when I see signs for Michigan ski areas.
Dude, I grew up in Alaska and I cross country skied ONCE. Don’t feel bad. Skiing isn’t the only thing you can do in the snow and mountains. I much prefer the old fashioned sport of sledding.
