A couple of small points about the blog.
Welcome, and thanks for stopping by! Subscribe to my RSS feed so you don't miss a single exciting post (or any of my regular ones). Thanks for visiting!
Why I turned my business website into a blog.

This is version 2 of my official company website. The first version was a fairly standard static site (which you can view here), and it served me well. In fact, it help me get hired by my largest client. But managing it wasn’t the easiest thing in the world. And I wanted to add a blog, which would have been possible with the old site, but it would’ve been a bit clunky.
Switching to a blogging platform has a lot of advantages. First off, I can still have all the static pages a good professional site needs (Services, Samples, etc.). But I can also showcase my writing by easily putting up fresh samples (the blog entries) quickly and easily. Also, the blogging platform I use, Wordpress, can support a large number of features and plugins that allow me to easily track visitors, optimize search engine placement, add photos, and more. The ability for visitors to leave comments also engages visitors and draws them in more than a static site would.
I highly recommend you set up your professional site on a blogging platform if you are a freelancer.
U Comment I Follow

I value the visitors to this site and I appreciate that you’ve taken the time to visit and read what I have to say. I think it’s important to reward visitors if I can, so if you leave a comment and identify the website you represent, I make sure that search engine crawlers will recognize the link back to your site.
Wordpress defaults to enabling the rel=nofollow attribute in comments, making it so these links aren’t followed by search engines. This decision was designed to cut down down on the proliferation of comment spam. This hasn’t really worked, there are better ways to prevent comment spam, and it hasn’t encouraged the development of relationships between bloggers and visitors.
I’ve installed the plugin Dofollow. This enables the rel=external attribute, meaning search engines will follow links to your site, ideally helping to boost your site’s profile among the search engines. (This can also be done by just diving into the code for the site, but I knew even less about the code behind a blog than I do now, and the plugin was just easier.) It’s not a lot, but it’s a little bit I can do to thank you for visiting and engaging.
More information about U Comment I Follow, including icons and CSS code you can use on your own site, can be found here.
So leave a comment and pick up some link love! (Sure, the blog’s not big yet, but it will be some day!)
Next time
Okay, enough of that. Next time I’ll tell you a little bit about what I learned about marketing during my vacation, and also why I hate The Wiggles. See you then!
